Here’s a super simple recipe for Apple Crisp. I even have a video included in this post to show you how to make it!

There isn’t anything quite like warm apple crisp, fresh out of the oven with a large scoop of ice cream served on top and melting.  It’s just about the easiest dessert to make with fresh apples.

It’s almost fall. It really is! It may be kind of hot outside still, but the nights are cooler and it’s coming soon. Fall weather calls for apples and baking.  I just made a mass-purchase of Gala apples at Costco, so making Apple Crisp was a no-brainer.

How to make Apple Crisp:

Peel and slice 4 to 5 medium-large apples (I used Gala, but Braeburn, Cox’s Orange Pippin, Granny Smith, Jonathon, or Golden Russet work well too). Spread them out in a 8×10-inch dish.

Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top and toss the apples in the juice.

Sprinkle the “crisp” mixture on top (butter + brown sugar + oats + cinnamon + flour + salt).

Bake until everything is nice and gooey and the crumb is a bit crispy on top.

This Apple Crisp is best served warm- and that’s okay because there’s no way you will be able to hold off on eating it as it comes out of the oven.  But it’s also very easy to warm up later.  And don’t even think about serving it without vanilla ice cream.

Is it fall yet where you live??  Do you get those crazy, colorful trees with leaves flying about and gathering on the streets?  Are you wearing plaid shirts and cute boots on cool evenings?  We’re at our house in Oregon until November, so I’m looking forward to experiencing all of that very soon!

Just made this, actually it’s still in the oven! You all are talking about fall and changes in seasons, you don’t know how lucky you all are that you actually have seasons! Where I live, on a small island, Bahrain, in the Gulf, there’s only one season HOT!!!! and even worse HUMID!!!! We get a few weeks of 68-70*F and then the heat and humidity come back!! I miss seeing those leaves turn and feeling a chill and wearing a sweater! But we get beach weather, so I guess I can’t complain!

It’s a chilly gloomy day here in Iowa-perfect for apple crisp! I was looking for a recipe with four apples in it. Going to make this today and I can’t wait!

Another great recipe – thank you! I made it with 3/4 cup brown sugar and it’s delicious. Just pulled it out of the oven to cool…couldn’t resist a taste test!

I assembled this before we had dinner out last night and popped in the oven when we returned home. It was delicious even with my adjustment to only use 1/2 of the butter, topped with a scoop of peanut butter and plain greek yogurt (no ice cream on hand) and I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for the recipe!

I’ve been blessed to live in four seasons my entire life! I even like a rainy day in summer. I have spotted a couple of yellow leaves this week- makes me happy. I am making your crisp today! Here we love using a mixture of different apples which always include Golden Delicious. Thanks for the recipe and great photos.

Delicious apple crisp recipe. I use granny smith apples. Its perfect served still warm with vanilla ice cream or with fresh whipped cream and a sprinke of cinnamon and sugar.

I used to live in Carlsbad, CA and DID miss the seasons on occasion but I would give a million dollars to live there again. It would probably cost that to live there LOL. But why are people not ever satisfied with what we have what we think we wanted.? Now I long for that Southern California weather when it is 106º in the summer or 17º at night in the winter.

More to the point, I think Apple Crisp is one of my favorite desserts. I think I like a little bit of apple with a LOT of topping !

I’m a HUGE fan of crisps. I’ve never been a pie crust fan so to me this is better than a pie. I love to add other seasonal fruits in as well, but sometimes, especially now when the apples are freshest, just good old apple is enough.

Thanks for reminding me it’s time to bake!
