Here’s a super simple recipe for Apple Crisp. I even have a video included in this post to show you how to make it!
There isn’t anything quite like warm apple crisp, fresh out of the oven with a large scoop of ice cream served on top and melting. It’s just about the easiest dessert to make with fresh apples.
It’s almost fall. It really is! It may be kind of hot outside still, but the nights are cooler and it’s coming soon. Fall weather calls for apples and baking. I just made a mass-purchase of Gala apples at Costco, so making Apple Crisp was a no-brainer.
How to make Apple Crisp:
Peel and slice 4 to 5 medium-large apples (I used Gala, but Braeburn, Cox’s Orange Pippin, Granny Smith, Jonathon, or Golden Russet work well too). Spread them out in a 8×10-inch dish.
Squeeze fresh lemon juice on top and toss the apples in the juice.
Sprinkle the “crisp” mixture on top (butter + brown sugar + oats + cinnamon + flour + salt).
Bake until everything is nice and gooey and the crumb is a bit crispy on top.
This Apple Crisp is best served warm- and that’s okay because there’s no way you will be able to hold off on eating it as it comes out of the oven. But it’s also very easy to warm up later. And don’t even think about serving it without vanilla ice cream.
Is it fall yet where you live?? Do you get those crazy, colorful trees with leaves flying about and gathering on the streets? Are you wearing plaid shirts and cute boots on cool evenings? We’re at our house in Oregon until November, so I’m looking forward to experiencing all of that very soon!

I have to admit I do like the change of seasons, right now here in NJ the humidity has ended and the skies are bright blue, the evenings are cool…It is nice, but I like winter too, staying at home by the fireplace, just wonderful…life is good…m
It’s too hot in LA! I’m dying here! I think I need to make this apple crisp pronto and have a bowl full of fall 🙂
It’s hotter now in San Diego than it was all summer – go figure, right!
I love the looks of this crisp, Lori! It reminds me of how my mom makes hers and it looks so good!
mmmmmmmm I have loved apple crisp since I was a little girl. It totally is comfort food for me.
This looks great. With fall slowly being felt here in NYC I will be apple picking soon, I will be sure to try this!
Wow Lori, what a great picture! It looks so delicious! Now I want some! Great job!
We finally got a taste of fall this weekend before the temps went up again. It was glorious! I was too busy to cool anything, but I desperately wanted to whip something with apples up. I think a crisp will be first on my list now 🙂
Apple crisp will always be a favorite of mine, and your recipe is lovely! Can’t wait to try 🙂
Great dessert – easy to prepare and a good way to use the apples on my tree that all seem to ripen at the same time! I served it with kool whip, but vanilla ice cream sounds delicious.
