Ginger Cookies
Any time is a good time to make ginger cookies, but they’re especially good to bake around the holidays. Your holiday cookie platters will be complete with these cookies, some gingerbread cookies, chocolate kiss peanut butter blossoms and holly cookies!
🛒 Ingredients needed:
- shortening
- granulated white sugar
- egg
- molasses
- baking soda
- ground ginger
- ground cinnamon
- all purpose flour
✏️ How to make Ginger Cookies:
*The complete, printable recipe with all ingredients and instructions is at the end of this post.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Use an electric mixer to cream the shortening and sugar together in a large bowl. Beat in the egg and molasses. Add the baking soda, spices and flour. Mix well.
- Roll into walnut sized balls and then roll them in granulated sugar.
- Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and press down crisscross with a fork. Bake for 8 minutes. Remove the cookies to a wire rack and let them cool completely.
★ How to store:
Let ginger cookies cool completely, and then store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. They may be stored in the freezer for up to one month. If you’d like to freeze balls of cookie dough, you can do that too. Just take them out and bake them according to the instructions in the recipe when the mood for eating ginger cookies strikes!
➡️ Recipe Tips:
- If you don’t want the criss-cross look, just use the sugared bottom of a glass to press them down slightly before baking.
- If you bake them on the longer side, they’ll be crunchy. If you bake them for less time, they’ll be softer.
❤️ Why I love this recipe:
- Ginger cookies are excellent dunked in milk!
- These cookies are a good one for gifting. They’re also a good one for mailing because they’re a little more sturdy than other cookies.
- You don’t have to decorate them!
