Sangria is one of those pitchers of cocktails that is fun to make and offer when you have people coming over. It’s also a lovely drink to serve when making paella or any spicy foods or seafood. It’s Spanish in origin, though you will most likely be able to find sangria all over the world. It’s so easy to make classic sangria at home, so be sure to give this recipe a try.
Ingredients needed:
- brandy
- Cointreau (or another brand of orange liqueur)
- water
- orange juice (fresh squeezed is best)
- sweetener (agave nectar, white sugar or simple syrup)
- bottle of dry red wine (Rioja, Merlot and Zinfandel work well for sangria)

This recipe for Classic Sangria couldn’t be any easier to make. You will need a pitcher and some sangria glasses. Combine all ingredients in the pitcher, and stir to combine. Chill for several hours, and then serve.
Why do you need to let sangria chill?
Giving the sangria time to chill with all ingredients mixed together and added fruit lets the fruit infuse the wine, allowing the fruit juices get in the mix and sweeten up the drink.
Pour individual servings into glasses. Be sure to add some slices of lemon and orange to garnish the glass.
Once you’ve drained a glass of sangria, be sure to eat the oranges. They will have soaked up all of the wonderful flavors in the sangria, and they will be delicious!
