I think peas are one of those foods that you either like or you don’t. We like them at my house! But we usually just simmer frozen peas in some water, drain and stir in some butter and then add it to dinner. That becomes a bit boring after a while. This recipe for sautéed peas with basil and bacon is the perfect way to jazz up plain old peas!

Ingredients needed:

  • thick bacon
  • olive oil
  • garlic cloves
  • shallots
  • frozen peas
  • fresh basil
  • salt and pepper

How to make Sautéed Peas with Basil and Bacon:

Sauté the bacon in large skillet over medium heat. When the bacon is crisp, remove it with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
 
Using the same pan, pour off all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon drippings, add the olive oil and sauté the garlic and shallots for 2 minutes. Add the peas and basil. Cook 4 to 5 minutes until the peas are heated through.

Just before serving, add the cooked bacon and season with salt and pepper.

Bacon pretty much makes any food taste better. And in this case, it makes a bowl of sautéed peas taste amazing!

Ingredients

  • 2 slices thick bacon, cut into slivers
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 medium garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons minced shallots
  • 16 ounces frozen peas, thawed
  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves, slivered
  • salt and pepper, to taste
