These French Toast Waffles are a fun and delicious breakfast idea.
This recipe is for those who can never decide between French toast and waffles! French bread is soaked in sweet egg custard and then baked inside a waffle iron to create waffles made from French toast.
My favorite waffle maker is the Cuisinart Waffle Maker. I love that you can create two waffles at the same time. It’s super handy when you have a bunch of hungry mouths staring at you who all want waffles at the same time. I use mine all the time.
Ingredients needed:
- milk (any kind– use nonfat, low fat, whole or even cream)
- granulated white sugar
- melted butter
- vanilla extract
- ground cinnamon
- large eggs
- French bread (you’ll need about 7 ounces of a loaf for this recipe)
How to make French Toast Waffles:

Combine the ingredients for the egg custard. This is a mix of milk, eggs, sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract and cinnamon.
Lay the bread slices into a 13×9-inch pan and pour the custard mixture oven them evenly. Let them sit for 5 minutes to soak up the eggy custard.
Spray your waffle iron with nonstick spray. Place one bread slice in each waffle maker section. Close the lid, and let them cook for 3 to 5 minutes- until your French toast waffles are golden brown.
Make a whole bunch of them (which is really easy to do if you have a double waffle maker!) Or dish out your French toast waffles as they finish cooking to the hungry people surrounding you!
A serving size of two to four is perfect. I’m guessing most people eating these will want four. So this recipe will make four servings of four little waffles each.
Pour warm maple syrup on top. Enjoy!
